User Request - Andrew Garza or Salazar, More Information Needed

I received this request a couple of days ago from Anna Garza Rosamond and just hope that by posting it someone may be able to have an answer.

Hi. My name is Anna Garza Rosamond. I am trying to find my father's family. He was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas sometime around 1900-1905. He used the name Andrew Garza after coming to the US as a child, but I know that was not his birth surname. The truth is we just don't know as he kept this info from all his children. My older sister once claimed his surname was Salazar and my brother recently took a Y-DNA test through Family Tree DNA and the only high level match for him was to a Flavio Salazar. So far this Mr. Salazar has not responded to any of our queries. I have pictures of my father's parents whose names I don't know, but I know he had two sisters, probably named Celia and Lilia. I also have photos of some of his family taken in either Matamoros or Monterrey in the late 1950s. I will be glad to forward the pictures to anyone who thinks they might be able to identify them. Any help that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Vecinos de Cerralvo 1630 - 1760, Guillermo Garmendia Leal

Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico was founded as early as the 1590's but the church and civil records were either lost or destroyed up until 1761. As Mr. Garmendia states, this means that the documents up to eight generations or more are forever gone.

In his book Vecinos de Cerralvo Mr. Garmendia compiled the names of people that where from Cerralvo from 1630 to 1760. He obtained them from every surrounding town's archive or church records.

If your research has lead you to Cerralvo during this time period this book is worth checking out.

Death Record of Juan Joseph de Castro, 1791 in Revilla, Ciudad Guerrero, Tamaulipas, Mexico

The following is the church death record of my 6th great grandfather Juan Joseph Gutierrez de Castro. he died February 26, 1791 in Revilla, present day Ciudad Guerrero, Tamaulipas, Mexico. This document indicated that he died of pain and did make a will. He was married to Maria Gutierrez de Lara. If anyone has more information on them please email me.

Enesta Yglesia de Revilla en veinte y siete de Febrero de mil setecientos y noventa i uno, Yo Fr Josef de Herrera ministro desta Villa di sepultura Eccla. con Entierro mayor y fabrica de veinte [?] al cuerpo de Dn. Juan Josef Gutierres de Castro Espanol de Edad de Setenta un anos vezino de esta Villa casado con Dna. Maria Olaia Gutierres de Lara. Recivion los Santos Sacramentos de Penitencia y Extrema Uncion, y la obsolucion de la Ba. Ma. hizo dispocicion testamentaria. Murio de dolor y pa. qe. Conste lo firme este dia, mes, y ano ut supra.

Index to the Marriage Investigations of the Diocese of Guadalajara, Two Volumes Covering 1653 - 1779

If your ancestors lived in the Texas, Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, and Coahuila region and had a marriage dispensation before 1779 it had to be granted by the Bishop of Guadalajara since this huge area was under its ecclesiastic jurisdiction.

The good thing is that you do not have to browse through the thousands of records since Raul J. Guerra, Jr., Nadine M. Vasquez, and Baldomero Vela, Jr. have already done it for us. All you have to do is to get a hold of their two volumes titled;
