My father was born in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, but raised in Valley Hermoso, Tamalipas (from about 1938 to 1950). My problem is that I find no information on my grandfather (almost if he didn't exist). I did find lots of cousins & many who still live in Valle Hermoso, Tamalipas but no grandfather. Any ideas as to what I should do next?

Thanks for your inquiry: have you looked at the following link at familysearch for:

Mexico, Coahuila, Civil Registration, 1861-1998

Nueva Rosita is not listed but just do a google map search to see which city is the biggest nest to it and start searching there. Also look at the following link

Mexico, Tamaulipas, Civil Registration, 1800-2002

This link contains mainly deaths but maybe you can find him there, that is if he died there. My last suggestion is that you ask your living relatives for any information or leads and take it from there. Maybe someone has documents or photos.

Just wanted to let you know that I received this email from Crispin Rendon earlier today. It is the MtDNA of Maria Cayetana Flores Valdez.  Maria Cayetana Flores Valdez was the wife of Juan Garza they married on 11 Jul 1707 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. According to the 2012 Top 20 MtDNA Report she has over 3,090 known descendants. Is she one of your ancestor? If so let us know, post a comment on this page.

We Are Cousins Has A New Sister Site Mexican Genealogy

I just wanted to let you know that I have started another blog titled Mexican Genealogy and you can visit it at www.mexicangenealogy.info I hope that you check it out whenever you get a chance to.


Why do we need this website?

Posting daily blogs posts at We Are Cousins has been a great experience and has led me to interact with allot of people. Through this interactions I realized that I was getting asked questions pertaining to Genealogy all over Mexico and not just South Texas and North Eastern Mexico Genealogy. These requests for resources and information about other parts of Mexico, is my main motivator for starting the new website and also all the requests on how to start doing Mexican Genealogy research was another great motivator. I just hope that with time I will be able to build that website into one of the best resources when it comes to getting started with Mexican Genealogy and also as a one stop for everyone with Mexican Ancestry to  search for their Mexican ancestors. User Request - Demetrio de la Garza and Dionisia Casas Any Information is Appreceated

On June the sixth I received the following inquiry and now I am sharing it with all of you in hopes that together we may help each other out or at least in hopes that someone out there may have the answer's  for Linda.

Inquiry:

I am looking for information on Demetrio de la Garza and his wife Dionisia Casas. I have found the baptismal records for 2 of their children - Jose Encarnacion (1879) and Maria Ignacia (1881), and they also had another son named Nicolas(1889). Those records show Baptisms registered at Nuestra Senora del Refugio in Matamoros. Demetrio's father was listed as Rafael de la Garza and his mother was listed as Ignacia Lopez Gonzales (or Gonzalez Lopez). Dionisia's parents were listed as Encarnacion Casas and and Juana Saurez or Juarez. Dionisia (Leonicia) Garza died in Victoria, Texas (1935). I believe that Demetrio died in Matamoros before 1900, and his widow moved her family back to Texas (they were in the 1900 Goliad census). Any information about Demetrio is helpful. Thank you!

Located on land known as Porcion 46, ceded by the crown of Spain to Don Jose Matias Tijerina in 1767, the community of Havana was named for Havana, Cuba, where Tijerina had stopped on his journey from Europe. Among the early settlers here were the families of Josefa de la Garza Salinas and Civil War Union soldier Patricio Perez. A frame church was built in 1891 and named for St. Joseph. Descendants of early settlers still live in the area. Many Havana pioneers are buried here in the Havana Cemetery. (1988)
