Dead and Injured Soldiers in 1844 Battle Against Comanche Indians In La Salada, Nuevo Leon, Mexico

I was going through the Mier church death records when I came across these images. The first two make a list of the dead and injured soldiers and civil militia from Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. At least that is what I think from what I can read on the list, not sure if these where all the dead and injured since they fought against a group of well over 400 Comanche Indians (Leal, pg 17) or only the ones from Mier. The second is of the Church record where the dead members of the church are listed and listed are their wives names also.

Leal mentions in his book La Palmita Muerte Sobre las Lomas that this group of Comanche Indians left over 80 people dead in the small town of La Palmita, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and took the rest of the women and children captive. Civil and Military forces were mobilized and on October 16, they rescued over 61 captives from the Comanches (Leal pg 18, 19, 20).

The following image and transcription is of the 1909 Civil Registry Record of my 2nd great grandfather Jorge Lopez. He was married to Maria Luz Garza and his parents were Gabriel Lopez and Maria de Jesus Gonzalez.

Acta numero 75 setenta y cinco. - En la ciudad de Mier, Tamaulipas, a las diez de la manana del dia, treinta y uno de Agosto de mil novecientos nueve, a mi Enrique Garcia, Juez del Registro Civil, me fue entregada una acta en la que el Encargado del El Arcabuz, hace constar: que el dia, treinta del, corriente se le presento Gabriel Garza, soltero y de aquella vecindad, manifestando: que a las tres de la tarde del dia diecinueve del actual fallecio de fiebre el senor Jorge Lopez, a la edad de sesenta anos. Que fue hojo de los finados Gabriel Lopez y Maria de Jesus Gonzalez; que deja viuda a la senora Maria Luz Garza, mayor de edad y de aquella comparencion, y que tambien deja desendientes. El cadaver fue sepultado en el cemeterio de aquella conjuression. Fueron testigos Gerardo Lopez y Hermenegildo Garcia, de aquella vecindad. The following is the image and transcription of the 1904 Civil Death Registration of my 3rd great grandfather Trinidad Pena. His parents are listed as Trinidad Pena and Sanjuana Garza (Maria San Juana Garza). This document also indicates that he was buried in Arcabuz, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He was the husband of Antonia Rodriguez.

Suplente, del Arcabuz hase constar, que el dia veintitres de Enero alli mismo, se le presento el Senor Victor Garzalez, labrador y de aquella vecindad, manifestando que, a las tres de la tarde del veintidos del propio Enero fallecio de Fiebre el Senor Trinidad Pena a la edad de sesenta y cuatro anos, Que fue natural y vecino de aquel rancho. hijo de los finados, Trinidad Pena y Sanjuana Garza, viudo y que dejo. decendientes.
