He married 2nd Paula Contreras on May 24, 1911 in Starr, Texas, USA. Paula, daughter of Apolonio Contreras and Demetria Garza, was born in Jun. 1891 in San Miguel, Tamaulipas, Mexico and died on Nov. 2, 1921 in La Grulla, Starr, Texas, USA.

Another Great Tool for your Genealogy Research

An invaluable tool when doing my Genealogy Research is a piece of software called Search made by Sandman Software. Their websites description is:

Searches text files for strings and combination of strings. Has useful or / and / and not search combinations, and can also use regular expressions. New in version 3, is the built-in viewer / editor that highlights the matched strings and lines.

I have been using this software for about four years, and the way that I use it is mainly to search text based databases that I have accumulated throughout the years, for example vital records, voter lists, indexes of census, and others. It displays the line of text where there is a match and it searches multiple documents at the same time.

Try it out right now they have a 30 day trial period and if it serves your needs SadMan Software Search is priced at $29.00 for a personal or corporate single-user license. I usually don't like to spend money but this is the only software that I have found that gets the job done. If anyone has a free alternative that does the same job as this software let me know.

This post is the first one that I publish in regards to my wife's side of the family. The picture above is of Francisco Perez Lozano and Paula Contreras Garza. 

I came into possession of this picture last month when I decided to go trough a box of things belonging to my wife. We had gotten the box about two months prior from my mother in law and we just left it in the garage until it started to bother me and since my wife never took the initiative I decided I was going to go through it.

It turned out that most of the things were books. I found several yearbooks and my wife's old bible. The bible turned out to be a treasure of genealogical information, at least in my view point. I found several old photos including the one above and several laminated obituary notices. 

The above photo must have been taken between 1911 and 1923 since Francisco and Paula Married in 1911 in Starr County and Paula died in 1923, her death certificate does not state what she died from but if I can remember right my father in law stated that she died during child birth or a snake bite.

Danny Villarreal's Website - A Hispanic Genealogy Treasure

Danny Villarreal's website is another treasure for Hispanic genealogy and the most complete resource when it comes down to researching the Villarreal Surname, but don't be deceived. Many people may turn it's back quickly thinking "I don't have Villarreal ancestors what am I doing here?". Danny's website will not disappoint you he has an extensive database of over 11,000 individuals and most of them are from South Texas and Northeastern Mexico.

The Villarreal surname is a Noble and very old surname its lineage is very well extended throughout the entire Iberian Peninsula. There are several different casas solares in Aragon, Castilla, Pais Vasco y La Rioja. There were only a handful of Villarreal families that entered the New World during and after the conquest. There is also a large concentration of this surname in Argentina. This web page is an attempt to document all of these men and women so that all with this surname can have a starting or ending point for your ancestral search. Y-DNA testing has helped us determine which family group we belong to. The most dominat family group is the Northern Mexico and Southwestern USA family. This area has the largest surname population even larger than Spain. This groups common ancestor is Diego de Villarreal. This family may be related to the Villarreal family from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Zacatecas, Saltilo, Durango and Monterrey, Mexico. The Portal to Texas History

A few days ago I stumbled into this website The Portal to Texas History, it is unique and very informative. It has digital newspapers, newsletters, genealogical journals, maps, and much more about Texas.

Just by the short time I have used it it has become a great tool in my family search, I already found several great stories in the Brownsville Herald, a South Texas Newspaper.

I can assure you that this website will become part of your tool box when researching family in Texas. What a great resource to start the month with. Happy hunting, enjoy.
